Please make a law for strictly showing prices and weight on all products and packages in a bigger bold font size (I prefer 10 % of the packet size). Nowadays, old people are suffering because of small font size.

Topics for Debate
4. Privatization of Verification job
The Government of India proposes to follow the Germany Model and allow privately run GATC to verify some weights and measires without any interference of State Metrology Authorities. No doubt, the list will grow leaving only items like beam scales and commercial weights to inspectors. Visit the draft Rules on GATC, and let all know what do you think of the new legislation.
3. The Weighing Instruments used exclusively for domestic purposes
need model approval and verification
Weighing or measuring instruments manufactured exclusively for domestic use did not require approval of model in terms of Section 36(1) of the SoWM Act, 1976. But, the item (e) of the said section was not included in the proviso to Section 22 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009. Why they withdraw the exemption?
2. Verification is required before selling of weights and measures
and even re-verification for the unsold stock.
A manufacturer or dealer does not uses the weight or measure. Still, he cannot sell an instrument without verification. It is prohibited under S. 33. To add salt to the injury, even the unsold stock will need re-verification as per Rule 16(4) of the State Enforcement Rules. Do you consider it fair?
1. State Governments will no longer approve models of weights and measures
which will be sold within the State
Power to State Governments to make provisions of the Standard Act (SoWM Act, 1976) relating to approval of model applicable to models of weight or measure intended to be used exclusively within the State. [Section 73 of the SoWM (Enforcement) Act, 1985] stands DELETED.
The State Government has now no authority to grant approval of a model. The State laboratories are not competent to test any model, unless the laboratory is recognized for such tests by the GOI. This will be a major problem for small manufacturers who sell their products within the state.
